Pay 2018: Offer accepted

As with all pay offers, Unite members had the final say. The results show that there was widespread dissatisfaction with the bank’s final offer with over a third of voters rejecting the offer.

This newsletter was first published in February 2018.

In an on-line survey, Unite members have voted to support the banks pay proposal for 2018.

65% of those who participated in the on-line poll backed the decision of the RBS National Company Combine (NCC) of Unite and endorsed the new pay deal.

The union has now communicated the result to the bank and the employer will continue with the implementation of the pay process and be communicating further with staff directly.

The banks final offer reduced the number of employees not receiving any matrix increase or non-consolidated cash payment. 66% of the employee bargaining unit will now receive pay rises of 2% or better, with 48% getting 4% pay rise or more.

In addition, there will be a guaranteed minimum underpin of £360 for all 3, 4 and 5 rated clerical and appointed staff within range.

For all 3 rated clerical and appointed staff who are above their range maximum, a non-consolidated cash payment of £300 will be paid. For employees rated as 4 the payment will be £330 with those rated as 5 receiving a cash payment of £360.

Unite negotiators will be meeting regularly with representatives of RBS over the coming months to progress the discussions on issues members have raised with us and to ensure the continued development of a fair and transparent approach to pay and the measurement of performance.

Unite will be issuing regular updates to members as these talks progress and will also be seeking your views and feedback before any suggested changes are implemented.

Despite backing the pay offer, a sizable minority of those who participated in our member’s survey were not prepared to support the 2018 deal.

This mirrors the views expressed to Unite representatives by members that many RBS employees are still struggling to make ends meet. Unite will continue to reflect these legitimate concerns in our dealings with RBS.

The union is always seeking members to take on one of the four Unite Representative Roles i.e. Workplace, Union Learning, Safety and Equality.
