Pay 2019 & 2020 Campaign Archive
The two year deal was accepted by members with a comfortable majority seeing 84% of respondents back the Pay 2019 and 2020 pay offer. Within the context of the time and history of the company, this offer was undeniably embraced by members. It must be remembered, however, that this pay deal covered 2020 which saw the emergence of COVID-19 and a cost of living crisis from which lasted for years.
No subsequent pay deals have received such strong backing as members needs and expectations have grown and the cost of living crisis has persisted, but the bank has continued to rely on the same rehashed pay offers and business as usual tactics.
This newsletter was first published in January 2019.
Following the December on-line survey, Unite members have voted to support the banks pay proposals for 2019 and 2020.
84% of those who participated in the on-line poll backed the decision of the RBS National Company Committee (the NCC) of Unite and endorsed the new pay deal.
The union has now communicated the result to the bank and the employer will continue with the implementation of the pay process and will be communicating further with employees directly.
Following detailed negotiations between the Unite pay team and the bank, the proposed pay settlement resulted in a two-year deal. The settlement included both a guaranteed pay underpin and cash payments for both years. This represented an improvement on the deal secured in the previous annual pay round.
In 2019 all clerical and appointed employees on a matrix with a performance rating of 3, 4 or 5 who are within their salary range will get a minimum award of £450 (pro rata). In 2020 the minimum underpin payment will be £475 (pro rata) for relevant employees with a performance rating of 3, 4 or 5.
Clerical and appointed employees with a performance rating of 3, 4 or 5 and who are paid above the maximum of the salary range will receive one-off cash payments of £350, £375 or £400 (FTE) for 3, 4 and 5 rated colleagues respectively. These payments will be made in April 2019.
For 2020 (effective April) the amounts will be £375, £400 and £425 (FTE) for 3, 4 and 5 performers respectively.
Unite negotiators will continue to meet regularly with representatives of RBS to progress discussions on issues members have raised with us and to ensure the continued development of a fair and transparent approach to pay across RBS in the future.
